Ms. Lasta Tamrakar

Ms. Lasta Tamrakar and Ms. Urmila BK belong to same school and grade. Lasta lives with her elder brother after their parents died from different health issues. Her brother is the sole breadwinner for the family. He works as an electrician in minimal wages. She has been receiving scholarship program from the last three years from Milijuli Samaj Nepal. This year, Lasta was granted with NRs 9,500 for her education from which she could pay school annual fee, buy notebooks, school bags and uniform. Lasta says, ‘our financial status was very good before my mother’s death. My mother’s death traumatized my father so much that he got into chronic alcoholism. He sold all the property to fulfill his alcohol need and we had to move to one rented room. Before that, my academic performance at school was outstanding. Two years ago, my father had a sudden death. Our financial problems worsened. I could not cope with the stresses which hampered my study. In those bad days, I and my brother did not get any support from relatives.

My brother has some physical abnormalities. But due to lack of money, he hasn’t sought any treatment. I have many problems in my life. So, sometime I lose my hope for living and think of committing suicide. But I would like to thank Milijuli Samaj Nepal for supporting me in my crucial time. One of the Milijuli staff has also been supporting me financially by depositing Rs. 200 as monthly savings in my account at Pratibaddha Milijuli Savings and Credit Cooperative Ltd. I hope one day I will be able to invest the accumulated amount for a good cause. My goal is to obtain a master degree and work in the banking sector. I want to help my bothers in monetary matters as he has been doing to me now. After affiliating with Milijuli, I got self-defense training at their office. The training taught me useful techniques of protecting self if I encounter any unpleasant situations. I also learnt about being alert while talking to new people.’
