07 Jun Sara Waiba – Case Study
My name is Sara Waiba I am 12 years old and currently studying in grade 5. I go to Dhapasi Madhyamic Bidhyalya which is a government school. I was able to secure 77% marks in my recent exam. Our school is closed now due to the COVID 19 pandemic. I am doing self-study at home on my own as our school cannot provide online classes.
We are a family of four and I have a small younger brother. My parents have rented a single room which is also our bedroom, kitchen and study room. My father is illiterate so he works as a laborer and earns Rs.9000 per month (76 USD). The daily labor work is not available throughout the year. My mother sometimes helps father and manages to earn Rs.900 per day (7.7 USD). My mother’s health issues prevent her from working regularly.
During this pandemic my mother got the opportunity to learn a new skill through the training provided by Milijuli Samaj Nepal. She learned to make face masks and sanitary pads. My mother is able to earn Rs.900 per week (7.7 USD) from the sales of those face masks and sanitary pads.
I miss going to school and playing with my friends. I try and read my school text books during my self-study time. My grades were good when I was in Grade 3, I was the 1st ranked student in my class. But this year my grades were not good as my scores in English and Math were average.
I would like to join a coaching class to help me improve my studies but my parents tell me they cannot afford it. Therefore I am studying at home myself.
I am very grateful with Milijuli Samaj Nepal because different useful awareness programs conducting throughout the year. I also participated few sessions like awareness session against cybercrime, child sexual abuse, and COVID prevention awareness program and also received face mask, soap, medicines and sanitary towel too. During 2020 pandemic period the Milijuli Samaj Nepal distributed rice, pulse, wheat flour, oil, sugar, and beans, salt for one month to our community. Thank you Milijuli Samaj Nepal .
If I will get chance to study in coaching class, then I will improve my English and Match subject. I would like to thank to Milijuli Samaj Nepal and Pratibaddha Milijuli Saving and Credit Cooperative for food and sewing machine which we have received such difficult time. My mother is utilizing her extra time on face mask making to earn money for our family. Therefore we would like to thank both organizations because our family got a great support and I could continue my study. In future I want be a nurse to serve poor people those who have not money for treatment. My grandparents are sick and they are very poor cannot afford money for kidney operation. She is expecting help from my parents, but they are also unable to support such pandemic period.
